His areas of interest encompass waste management and pollution control; water, air, and soil pollution; water resource development and management; Sustainable Development; Data Science; Land Use Planning and Land Cover dynamics; Development Control; Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing; Safety, Health, and Environmental Management including law, risk assessment, and auditing. He also delves into wastewater concerns, health interventions, and the impacts of point pollution sources such as mines, smelters, farms, and landfills on both the environment and human health. His main contribution lies in multidisciplinary and collaborative experimental work, field research, and modelling aimed at addressing waste management challenges in both rural and urban communities, including residential areas. He places special emphasis on comprehending complex environmental management systems, with a particular focus on issues related to climate change, the circular economy, net zero, technology transfer, standards development, innovation, and industrialization.
Dr. Gwisai is the Pro Vice – Chancellor (Academic) at Unicaf University and Programme Leader for the Master of Science in Sustainable Development. Previously he was Director of Academics at Unicaf University; Head of Programme and lecturer, Safety, Health and Environmental Management at Bindura University of Science Education; Lecturer Environmental Science at the University of Botswana; and adjunct lecturer at Solusi University. He was educated at Solusi University, where he gained his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health, and at the University of Botswana, where he was awarded his Master of Science in Environmental Science and a PhD in Environmental Science with research interests in waste management and pollution control. Throughout his career, he has published over 22 papers and book chapters in peer – reviewed journals and books, in addition to presenting seven conference abstracts and delivering 40 conference papers. He has also engaged in consultancy projects funded by the United Nations. Over the past ten years, he has served as an Editor in Chief; Managing Editor and has contributed as a reviewer for over 40 different journals. His current keen interest is collaborating with the Unicaf Online Journal – Technology and Sciences (UoJT&S) to explore a distinct model of scientific publication. He has personally received two international awards for his research work: the CODESRIA Small Grants Programmes Award for thesis writing in 2009 and the IPCCC International Geosphere – Biosphere Programme's second – best poster presentation in 2013. At national level, he has won the following accolades in service with the Standards Association of Zimbabwe for outstanding contribution to National Standardisation work (i.e. Technical Committee Member Recognition); Winner (2025); Finalist (2024); Finalist (2023).
